Online dating can be fun, exciting, and even addicting! There are things you should look out for though, before trying online dating. There are many issues with identity theft or fraud on some sites and certain precautions are required for you to avoid these things and avoid getting caught up in a crime that you did not commit!
Paranoia is a good trait to have when joining an online dating site. In the following article I will expose all of the tips you can use to avoid some of these evil and bad things in your online dating experience.
Online Dating Tip #1 - Do not tell anyone anything
When on an online dating service it is important to keep everything as private as possible! Do not give out your phone number to anyone that may ask you about it, even if you may know them or have been talking to them for a while. It’s just not a good idea to have. When asked where you live to not give a response for it is a trick to lure more information out of you for them to use later on. No one is your friend on these sites! Some members may even go so far as to make up profiles that resemble family members or friends just so they can ask more personal questions.
Online Dating Tip #2 - All sites are not safe
Some sites are developed to lure you in and when you sing up the site owner will get all of your information and can sell it to stalkers or other cyber criminals for a high price. Just because a site must require a detailed password doesn’t make it less of a challenge for hackers to obtain your information. Always read all the tiny print to find out exactly what the site can do and what it cannot do. My advice is to use a more mainstream or famous site. All though these sites can charge a heftier fee they are worth it for your identity to not be stolen.
Online Dating Tip #3 – Use an Alias
Following on from tip #1, it is a good idea to use an alias. An alias is basically a made up name that you can go by online. So if your name is Jane Smith, use something like, hot_chick_81 or something… and if someone does actually ask for your real name, give them a fake one.
You’d be surprised at what people can find out online.
